James Albert "CatTail" Smith, age 75, of Paintsville died Tuesday November 17, 2020 at his residence. He was born June 17, 1945 in Offutt to the late George and Lizzie Blanton Smith. On August 20, 1967 in Meally he married Linda Ward Smith who survives his death. Additional survivors include: two sons: Chris (Staci Ann) Smith, Shawn Smith; two brothers: Charles Ray Smith, Larry Douglas Smith; four sisters: Carolyn Ward, Barbara Chase, George Ann Fitch, Vickie Case; five grandchildren: Kelly Smith, Zach Smith, Trey Clay, William Weddington, Elizabeth Curtis. James proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M., on Friday from 1 P.M. until 8 P.M., and on Saturday from 9 A.M. until time of services. Funeral Services are scheduled for 1 P.M. Saturday in the chapel of the Preston Funeral Home with Larry Smith and Chris Rowland officiating. Interment to follow in the Highland Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville, KY.

In accordance with the requirements set forth by the Governor of Kentucky the funeral for Mr. Smith will be private for family only. By order of the Governor only 25 will be allowed to attend.
