Garnet Naomi Hitchcock, age 70, of Blaine died Thursday November 16, 2017 at her residence. She was born July 3, 1947 in Paintsville to the late Vencil Salyer and Fayetta Castle Salyer Ward Taylor. On June 26, 1967 in Flat Gap she married Charles Randall Hitchcock who preceded her in death February 16, 2008. In addition to her husband she is preceded in death by one son Ronald Dean Cox. Survivors include: one son: Charles Thomas Hitchcock of Flat Gap; two daughters: Tammy Jane Skaggs of Blaine, Thelma Lynn Cox of Hager Hill; three brothers: Toby Ward of Flat Gap, Phillip Ward of New York Michael Salyer of Flat Gap, KY; five sisters: Regina Duty of Paintsville, Mary Fern Sagraves of Flat Gap, Peggy Ramey of Oil Springs, Bobbie Helmandollar of Sitka, KY, and Rose Mary Salyer King of Paintsville; six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Visitation is scheduled on Saturday November 18, 2017 at the Preston Funeral Home from 5 P.M. until 9 P.M. and from 9 A.M. until 12 P.M. Sunday. Funeral Services are scheduled for 1 P.M. Sunday November 19, 2017 at the Calvary Church of God with Jimmy Jennings officiating. Burial to follow in the Appletree Cemetery at Blaine.







Jay Millard Daniel, age 73, of River died Tuesday November 14, 2017 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville, KY. Jay was born on May 15, 1944 in Freeburn, KY to the late John and Laura Price Daniel. In 1967 in Clintwood, VA he married Sandra Stargel Daniel who survives his death. Additionally surviving are one son: Matthew Daniel (Paula) of Flat Gap; two daughters: Laura Vanhoose of Lexington, Lu Ann Daniel of River; two brothers: Johnny Lowell Daniel of Springfield, OH, Bill Daniel of Tutor Key; two sisters: Joan Carol Hensley of Martha, Ora Alice Ward of River; three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Jay served his country proudly in the United States Army and was a coal miner for Martin County Coal Company. At the request of the family there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.

Billy Franklin Jackson, age 69 of Paintsville, died Sunday November 5, 2017. Billy was born December 7, 1947 in Paintsville, KY to the late Logan & Fannie Jackson. Billy was a retired sanitation worker for the City of Paintsville and a member of Encounter Mission. Billy is survived by 2 daughters; Regina Simpkins of Staffordsville and Jaqueline Preston of Paintsville, 4 Grandchildren, and 2 Step Grandchildren. At the reFall 2quest of the family, there will be no services at this time.

scenic-sunrays-on-forest-streamJames Clay Osborne age 57 of Wittensville, died Saturday November 4, 2017.  He was born July 10, 1960 to James David Osborne and the late Willa Dean Meade Osborne.  James was a truck driver for Black Diamond Mining.  He is survived by his wife Olive Ann Collins Osborne, two step sons Ben Meade, Jr. of River Scott Meade of Sitka, two step daughters Debarh Meade of Prestonsburg, Lisa Meade of Logan, OH, one brother Jimmy Dean Osborne of Standford, KY, one sister Lois Ann Butcher of Lebanon, OH,  fourteen grand children and several great grand children.   Visitation will be held on Sunday November 5 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Preston Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held Monday November 6 at 11 a.m.  at the Preston Funeral Home Chapel with James Kelly Caudill officiating.  Burial will follow in the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville, KY.

Earl was a retired Bus Driver with the Johnson County School System and a member of the Cold Spring United Baptist Church. On September 28, 1970 in Greeneville, SC., Earl married Linda Louise Lefler Adams who survives. Also surviving is 1 son; Earl Eugene Adams Jr. of Flat Gap, 6 daughters; Reda Adams of Paintsville, Esther Booth of Grove City, OH., Debbie Hoope of Ohio, Rebecca Darst of Ohio, Christiane Johnson of Flat Gap, and Alecia Marie Reeves of Flat Gap, 3 brothers; Eulas Adams of Volga, Johnny Adams of Flat Gap, and Ronnie Adams of Flat Gap, 1 sister; Phyllis Sebastian of Paris, KY., 5 Grandchildren, and several Great Grandchildren. Earl is preceded in death by 1 daughter; Trecia Wiley, 1 Brother; Lee Adams, and 2 sisters; Rosie Berryman, and Goldia Adams. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday October 19, from 3 P.M. until 10 P.M. and afetr 9 A.M. Friday at the Cold Spring United Baptist Church. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 P.M. Friday at the Patty Flat Cemetery with Paul Castle, Phillip Caudill, and George Estep officiating. Burial will follow in the Patty Flat Cemetery.

Ethel MckenzieEthel M. McKenzie, age 85 Stambaugh, died Saturday, September 30, 2017. Mrs. McKenzie was born August 14, 1932 in Paintsville, KY to the late Dennis and Exer Davis Culwell. On March 6, 1953 in Jackson, KY, Ethel married George “Bill” McKenzie who survives her death. Ethel was a member of the Sitka Free Will Baptist Church. Ethel is also survived by 6 sons; Jim McKenzie of Stambaugh, Tommy McKenzie of Stambaugh, Stevie McKenzie of Stambaugh, Billy McKenzie of Stambaugh, Eddie McKenzie of Auxier, and Monroe McKenzie of Lowmansville, 3 daughters; Linda Burchett of Stambaugh, Kathy Centers of Stambaugh, and Ollie Boyd of Lowmansville, 21 Grandchildren, 35 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great Great Grandchild also survives. Ethel is preceded in death by 3 grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren, and 2 son-in-laws. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, October 1 from 6 P.M. until 9 P.M. and on Monday October 2 from 12 noon until 9 P.M. at the Sitka Free Will Baptist Church. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 P.M. Tuesday, October 3 at the Sitka Free Will Baptist Church with Stan Burchett, Jeremy Estep, and Hobert Meek officiating. Burial will follow at the McKenzie Family Cemetery at Stambaugh, KY.

Anna-Reed-e1506784451359-150x150Anna Louise Reed, age 74 of Nippa, died Friday Sept. 29, 2017. Mrs. Reed was born August 5, 1943 in Paintsville, KY to the late Rev. Glen and Amanda Caudill Davis. On June 4, 1959, Anna married James Donald Reed who survives her death. Also surviving are 4 sons; Terry Dean Reed of Nippa, Jonathon Glenn Reed of Flat Gap, Donald Marcus Reed of Williamsport, and Anthony Dwayne Reed of NIppa, 2 daughters; Anita Gail Martin of Paintsville, and Rita Cheryl Blair of East Point, 1 sister; Virginia Carol Reed of Paintsville, 17 Grand children, and 11 Great Grand children also survive. Anna was a homemaker and a member of the Tutor Key Community Baptist Church. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday after 7 P.M. and until the time of services at the Tutor Key Community Baptist Church.  Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, October 2 at 11 A.M. at the Church with Jason Auxier, Arthur Scarberry, and Todd Scarberry officiating. Burial will follow in the Reed Family Cemetery at Red Bush, KY.

Scenic-Forest-Images- 4Timothy Von Crum age 52 died Sunday September 24, 2017.  He was born September 4, 1965 to the late John and Betty Lewis Crum.  Timothy was the owner and operator of the Appalachian Security.  He is survived by one brother Dusty Crum of Boons Camp.  At the family’s request there is to be no services held.

584063Shelba Jean Ratliff age 80 died Sunday September 24, 2017.  She was born February 25, 1937 to the late Rufus and Goldie Bowling Maynard.  Shelba was a seamstress with the sewing factory at Auxier and a member of the Ramey Branch Gospel Church.  Along with her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband James Earnest Ratliff and one son Edgel Ray Ratliff.  Shelba is survived by three sons James Edward Ratliff of Hager Hill, Paintsville Fire Chief Richard (Rick) Allen Ratliff of Meally, Paul Michael Ratliff of Flat Gap, three daughters Brenda Joyce Selvage of Staffordsville, Beverly Jean Stapleton of Flat Gap, Patricia Ann Kestner of Sitka, one sister Roberta Adams of Xenia, OH, several grandchildren and several great grandchildren.  Visitation after 4 P.M. Wednesday with a memorial  service  to be held at 7:30 P.M. Wednesday at the Ramey Branch Gospel Church.

Nancy CastleNancy Annabelle Castle age 80 of Louisa, died Saturday September, 16, 2017.  She was born April 19, 1937 to the late Benjamin Cavins Sr. and Goldie May Castle Cavins.  Nancy  is also preceded in death by her husband Tommy Castle Sr.  She is survived by five sons Francis Ray Caudy of South Dakota  Terry Eugene Caudy  of Murry City, OH, Paul Edwin Caudy of Darbyville, OH, Tommy Junior Castle of Louisa, KY, Danny Castle of Williamsport, KY, two daughters Sandra E. Castle Nelson of River, KY,  and Deanna Castle Blevins of Offutt, KY.  Twelve grandchildren and several great grandchildren also survive.  Visitation will be held on Monday from 6 P.M. to 9 P.M. and after 9 A.M. at the Boons Camp Free Will Baptist Church.  Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Tuesday at the Boons Camp Free Will Baptist Church with Mike Jarrell officiating.  Burial will follow in the Castle Family Cemetery at Louisa, KY.
